Welcome to Edith and Evelyn Vintage Interiors!  My name is Cindy and I am the founder and creator!

I grew up in a small Southwest Missouri town and was raised by a very savvy mama that was widowed at an early age.  Edith was a creator, a picker, and a DIYer way before it was cool or trendy.  She did it out of necessity because money was always tight. But she knew how to create a beautiful home from vintage finds and castoffs.  Mama scoured yard sales, flea markets, estate sales, and anyplace else she could find, looking for beautiful pieces, at bargain prices, to decorate our small home.  If her found treasures needed fixing, she could do it, and could turn some of the most down trodden pieces into things of beauty!  Though her talents were born of necessity, Edith had an amazing, creative eye for turning trash into treasure.  My love of vintage and antiques comes from her and I learned the art of “picking” at a very young age.

At the age of 22, I moved to the deep South, and instantly fell in love with it’s people, food, culture, and traditions.  I met my wonderful husband and my second mama in this chapter of my story…..Evelyn.  My mother in law was a little petite lady with bright red hair.  She was what my mama called a “fancy lady”, and she didn’t mean that in a negative way, for they got along famously and were good friends.  Evelyn, a true Southern lady, loved beautiful things…..fine china, crystal, silver, diamonds, and pearls.  As a matter of fact, she could rarely walk away from a strand of pearls or a silver cocktail fork!  She loved me like her own, and I her.

Both of these beautiful mamas influenced and inspired my love of decorating with vintage and antique pieces.  I lost them both many years ago but I constantly feel their spirits with me, so I felt it was only fitting to honor them both by naming my business and blog after them.  I’m sure that is  making them both smile!

After living in the South for many years, we decided to move back to Southwest Missouri a couple of years ago to be closer to family.  We purchased a beautiful, but neglected, 1970’s French Country Ranch home in the same little town that I grew up in.   We are slowly, but steadily, completely renovating the entire home one room at a time.  Hubby and I are doing all of the renovations ourselves (Mama would be so proud!) so it’s turning into a labor of love.  Our business, Edith & Evelyn Vintage, is a way to offer some of the beautiful vintage and antique pieces, that we find on our travels, to someone else to love.  What we sell in the online shop is a reflection of our own style, vintage inspired living with a French twist.

I don’t usually follow the “rules” of decorating.  I usually just fly by the seat of my pants, mixing several different decorating styles.  But somehow it seems to work.  I love gilt, chandeliers, weathered and chippy, burlap and grain sacks.  I love the serenity in old religious pieces, anything with a French flavor, rustic and elegant, shabby and glam.

I hope you enjoy your visit here and continue to follow along on this chapter of our journey!

Many Blessings,

  1. This is a great introduction page! I was wondering where your blog name Edith and Evelyn came from. How wonderful that you honored these two important people in your life by naming your business after them. I love your easy conversational style and boy is your home interesting and elegant with a definite calm French vibe. Love it!
